Sympathy for Bums?

Sympathy for Bums?
Should I have any?
Let me unpack this and attempt to make my case.
Its 8pm,my best friends birthday dinner, about 15 people sitting on the patio of Tio Leos Mexican Restaurant in Mission Gorge.  After prior living in the area in 2 locations and maybe for a little over a years time, I became familiar with the over population of the local transients, Bums, Homeless, and due to a few mental retardation clinics in the area, I was also used to seeing groups of handi-capped people wandering the streets.  Surprise party at 6pm. My friends house id about 3 block away from the Tasty Mexican Restaurant.  Drinking had started early and we had reserved the patio at the restaurant thinking it would be safe to all walk down and skip the DUI.  All the food comes out most of the group is mildly intoxicated.  As everyone is almost finished up with the meal, a Bum in a bright Green Robe, decides to join the party.  Unwarranted by me, chooses the seat across the table from yours truly.  So of the group doesnt seem to mind, 'he's hungry'  and the chips and salsa are fresh, and there are leftovers.  After listening to many Radio talk shows regarding I kindly disagree with the uneasy welcoming and asked the Bum to 'leave'.  After a few people barely 'chimed in' I was met with opinions of being 'insensitive'.  At this point I was forced to make my case.
Im a hard worker.  I wake up 6 days a week to shave, shower, and proceed to join the rest of the American work-force.  Not only do I work six days per week but I also have two jobs to support the life style I find suitable.  My resentment comes from the idea that the Bums and Transients of the neighborhood are LAZY.  I am aware that a limited percent of the the homeless actually have a chemical imbalance in the brain.  For that, my heart goes out to them and many charities support people in this category.  In regards to the other larger percentage of homeless people that choose to avoid any and all responsibilities in life, will get no sympathy.  Government programs of unemployment checks, welfare, and food provisions are available.  Those programs are what my tax dollars are channeled into.
Lets change direction and get into the Bum, Transient, Homeless man himself.  Living on the street day after day.  Obviously with out the common sense to borrow a garden hose in the middle of the night to clean up occasionally.  Should he choose to get violent and make an advance on anyone in our group, female or male, what now?  Are you aware of the disease under the fingernails.  If he or any homeless person where to scratch you or bite you the possibility of infection are great.  Who has he been sharing drugs with?  Meth is everywhere in San Diego.  Usually smoked in glass pipes that have been chipped and broken.  Meaning a light cut on his lip from the pipe that is being shared will be a likely transfer of germs.  Have you heard the expression 'get of the tracks when the trains coming'.
My insensitivity may over-shadow all my valid points.  I am curious to hear your response.
Dont be shy!
